WCSMT 2 Status

Ever since the crash of WCSMT, we’ve thinking about the way to bring it back out little home-brew experiment a sustainable presentation. Plans were drawn, sketches made and a new version is in full development.

So here are some announcements regarding the near future of WCSMT:

All animated .gifs will be deleted by Dec 9th, 2008

If you are fond of any particular animation you created, download it now.

It pains me to take these offline but we gotta make room for the new version to come. Of course this animations are backed up and we’ll put them back online when we find some space.

The new version should roll also in DECEMBER 9th 2008 :)

For the time being, we are dropping the animated gif format as our presentation format, as it is very bulky to store and transmit. Instead we are switching to PNG files, played back by a custom flash player embedded on HTML.

However it will be possible to download all animations as animated .gif for those who want to store the animations themselves.

Animations will have a 20 frame limit, instead of 10 and will have greater resolution.

Animations will have an expire date, after which they will be deleted to make room for the newer ones and keep things in a manageable size. We have yet to determine what is the best expiry time on our animations. We appreciate suggestions.

There will be some minimum ads on the site.

Animations will be moderated.

These are some screenshots of the new version:

I understand the need for moderation but it was the sense of wild adventure that made it so fun before.

YES!

i can’t wait.

thank you.

i think the limit should be like 1 – 3 weeks if thats too short, then a month. i don’t see the point in having them for longer than a month if they are going to be deleted. if you want to save them then save them right away :p

I hope you bring back allowing to browse back and see all the animations in the order they were uploaded. I really liked that.

The way it takes the shot is way too long! I preferred it when it was instant. Bring it back please.

I agree, having the 3 seconds is a nice feature but the instantaneous shot was also key. Any way you can make it an option to use either?

The flashing colored blocks are going to give me a seizure, please make them go away. Also very slow.

the timer is nice for some things, but it would be great to be able to disable it for SWEET ACTION SHOTS, etc.

Yeah, the site seems to have lost some of its “pep” with the addition of the colored blocks and the 3 second timer. Half of the images dont show up for me because of those colored blocks :(

Hi! Love the stop motion animation. I have a question though, didn’t know how else to contact you.

I recently made a GIF but it’s only showing up as a link when I try to save it to my computer:

Here it is:

Hopefully you can help, thanks!

Great fun! I have two tiny suggestions that shouldn’t be much work: 1. make the timer optional. 2. make an onionskin that shows the last captured frame at 50% transparency to help with lining up the next shot.
